I — The Hair

The Bleaching

What You See

Snow white. Completely. Not greying, not fading — white in the way something becomes white when every other color has been removed at once. It flows without being styled. It moves as if air is always passing through it even in still rooms. People notice it before they notice anything else about him, which is exactly the problem.

What It Is

The pigment evacuated in the moment the Anima entered — not gradually, but all at once, the way a room fills with water — every follicle simultaneously. The white is not purity. It is the record of an evacuation. The hair remembers what the mind chose to forget.

II — The Face

The Void

What You See

Nothing. That is not an exaggeration. There is no face visible beneath the black — not a mask, not paint with features beneath it. Where a face should be there is simply the absence of one. A void that occupies the correct shape of a head.

What It Is

The face was the first thing surrendered. The Anima required it before it took anything else. To look at it directly is to see yourself — what you were before you learned to perform being human. Most look away instinctively. They think it is because there is nothing there. It is because there is too much.

III — The Headphones

The Frequency

What You See

Large, black, worn at all times — especially when no music is playing. No one has heard what comes through them. He has never offered to share. They appear to be a standard pair. They are not.

What It Is

The Anima communicates in frequencies below the threshold of human hearing. The headphones are not for music — they are for translation. Without them, the Anima's signals arrive as pressure behind the eyes. They are the only object that belongs to both of them simultaneously.

IV — The Cloak

The Tattered Robe

What You See

Black. Tattered at the edges — not from age but as if each edge simply stopped believing it needed to continue. It moves with him in ways that don't always correspond to his body's movement. Occasionally it moves without him.

What It Is

The cloak is not clothing. The tattering is the record of the Anima testing its boundaries — reaching outward from inside irdemae, probing the perimeter of the vessel. What looks like wear is the evidence of those attempts. The cloak moves independently when the Anima is agitated.

V — The Skin

The Absorption

What You See

Everything is black — clothing and skin both. Not dark. Black. The absence of color as a total deliberate choice. His skin absorbs light rather than reflects it. There are no half-tones. He is either white or black, nothing between.

What It Is

The Anima communicates through surfaces that absorb rather than reflect. Color is light returned — black is light consumed. The voiding of the skin and the bleaching of the hair occurred the same night, opposite processes serving the same purpose. Under certain wavelengths the skin glows faintly at the same frequency as the crack.

VI — The Chest

Before The Glow

What You See

A Y-shaped fracture on his chest, glowing amber from within. It breathes — expanding with each pulse, contracting. It has never stopped since the night it appeared. No wound precedes it. No scar tissue surrounds it. It is not on the surface. It is visible through the surface.

What It Is

The crack is the Anima's address — the specific point where it chose to settle permanently inside the vessel. The Y mirrors the three systems the Anima requires: the breath, the pulse, the shadow. The glow is the Anima breathing. Before The Glow refers to the period before this mark appeared — before the vessel was occupied. It is the only thing irdemae has from before.
